A surprise 90th birthday celebration was held Saturday, Sept. 14, for Clare Naegle at the Davis Conference Center in Layton.
He was born on Sept. 17, 1923, in Toquerville to Raymond and Mildred Pace Naegle. He received his early education in Toquerville and later in Hurricane, graduating from Hurricane High School in 1941.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Later he worked at Hill Air Force Base, where he retired in 1979.
He married Nina Stacy, and they had three children. Their children and spouses are Michael and Terry Naegle of Ogden; Brad and Karon Naegle of Salinas, Calif.; and Lorri and Doug Aldridge of Woods Cross. They were later divorced.
In 1986, he married Elaine Pilgrim, and they currently reside in Clearfield.
He spends his time golfing, reading, riding his bicycle and volunteering at the Hill Air Force Museum. He still enjoys traveling.
He has two sisters: Phyliss Purdy (deceased) and Pat Scalise of Ogden. He also has four grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren, three stepchildren and several step-grandchildren.
