LaVar and Elsie Hickman Hipwell of West Weber will celebrate their 80th birthdays. Family and friends may attend an open house in their honor from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the West Weber Ward on 4100 W. 900 South. No gifts. The Hipwells will also be honored for their 62nd wedding anniversary.
He was born in Ogden on Sept. 22, 1933. Raised in West Weber, he retired from the Department of Transportation after 34 years as a project engineer. He was also a consultant for seven years.
She was born on Feb. 27, 1933, in Montrose. Colo. She worked 25 years for the U.S. government and retired from Hill Air Force Base.
Weber High School sweethearts (LDS Seminary), they were married on Sept. 28, 1951, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. They raised six children.
Both are active members in the LDS Church, holding various positions.
They have served 12 years on the Winter Haven Recreational Vehicle Park Board of Directors. They have held many offices for the Square Dance Association, including president of Ogden Square Dance Clubs, trustees and assistant general chairman for the 40th National Square Dance Convention held in Salt Lake City.
Their children are Randy and Diana Moss Hipwell, Susan Stewart, Nancy and Wayne Stephensen, Cynthia and Alan Franke, Richard and Carisa Hipwell, and Brent and Jill Hipwell. They have 26 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren.
They enjoy family, genealogy, farming, crafts and square dancing.
