I am a very concerned grandparent. I'm hoping someone might shed some light on this topic. How can a young girl get to play almost half-a-year's worth of volleyball on a Layton High varsity team, and then be notified that she is not eligible to play anymore because of some angry Davis coaching staff and Davis community members' phone calls to the district office or high school principle?
Her parents went through all the correct lines that where mandatory by the district. They where never informed that she could not play. Then this young lady tried out for the team and made it; they where never informed then that she could not play. Now half-way through the season when Davis was beat, she has been informed that she is ineligible to play! Who dropped the ball? I would say the district office or sports director?
I am guessing that this young lady is very much a threat to the coaching staff and or the Davis community (club ball, perhaps). Poor sportsmanship has always been an issue in competitive sports but I do think this is gone a bit too far.
We hear of football kids playing in other districts, we hear of wrestlers participating in others districts, so you tell me what's up with this? I know the kind of young lady that my granddaughter is and the fine people that her parents are and all I can say is, watch out for next year because all you ignorant people have done is light a fire under this young girl! She will get the last (smile) laugh!
It's very disheartening for this grandma to know there are people like this out there. Karma is a wonderful thing!
