FARMINGTON -- A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to pay $4,003.35 in restitution for the cleanup of graffiti in south Davis County.
Matthew Todakonzie appeared in 2nd District Court on Tuesday for a sentencing hearing. He was also sentenced to serve three years' probation, work 80 hours of community service and pay $700 in fines. He pleaded guilty in August to one count of third-degree felony graffiti violation, one count of class A misdemeanor graffiti violation and one count of class B misdemeanor criminal mischief.
He was originally charged with 18 counts of graffiti violation: two third-degree felonies, one class A misdemeanor and 15 class B misdemeanors.
He was arrested in May after an investigation of several months. Police said North Salt Lake had a huge influx of graffiti in February.
Through posts on the Internet, police narrowed suspects down to Todakonzie. They served a search warrant on him at his North Salt Lake home. He is not a gang member but considers his graffiti art, police said. All types of paints and Sharpies were found at Todakonzie's home.
