CLEARFIELD -- A 31-year-old man is staring at six felony charges after the mother of a 13-year-old girl saw nude photos of the man on her daughter's cell phone.
"A parent saw a text message coming in on her daughter's phone and thought that it was weird, so she looked and saw an inappropriate photo of this man," said Clearfield Assistant Police Chief Mike Stenquist.
The mother then went through her daughter's text messages and what she saw shocked her even more, Stenquist said. There were additional inappropriate photos of the man, along with requests from the man to the girl for her to send him inappropriate photos of herself.
"The mom called the police immediately," Stenquist said.
Police arrested and booked in the Davis County Jail, Weston Royal Anderson of Clearfield on three counts of dealing harmful material to a minor and three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Anderson has since been released on bail and the Davis County Attorney's Office is reviewing the case before filing formal charges in 2nd District Court.
According to the probable cause statement for arrest, Anderson and the girl had sent text messages "that were sexually explicit."
"It pays for a parent to know what is going on with their kids' cell phones, social media, and texts," Stenquist said.
The man was a family acquaintance and the parents "were shocked. They had no idea what was going on," between the two, Stenquist said.
