Evelyn June West Dean of Roy celebrated her 90th birthday with her family on Sept. 23.
The third of seven children, she was born Sept. 23, 1923, in Ogden to George and Grace Pincock West. She was baptized in the old Weber State College swimming pool on 25th Street in Ogden. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1941.
She met and married the love of her life Arvel Dean. They were married on Feb. 20, 1945, at the air base in Sioux Falls, S.D. Their vows were later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Logan Temple. They were married one month short of 67 years; he died Jan. 14, 2012.
She worked at Hill Air Force Base, Skaggs Drug Store and retired from Defense Depot in Ogden.
They served in the Washington Spokane Mission. After their mission, they lived in Spokane for several years house sitting for other couples who were serving on missions.
She belonged to a sewing club for many years.
Their five children and spouses are Dennis and Cherrie Dean, Vivian "Bibs" McDonald, Janis and Colin Kendell, Laurie and Dennis Illum, and Scott and Joyce Dean.
They have 19 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. A great-great-grandson and a great-great-granddaughter are due in January.
