NORTH SALT LAKE -- Celebrity activist Erin Brokovich is lending her name to a campaign by Utah activists to shut down a medical-waste incinerator.
Julia Roberts portrayed the activist in "Erin Brokovitch," an award-winning 2000 movie about a California pollution case.
Brokovich and her team of environmental investigators were due to join a protest meeting Saturday in North Salt Lake, where the incinerator is located.
State regulators have accused Stericycle Inc. incinerator of releasing toxic pollutants and falsifying records at the burn plant. The case gained national attention with a recent YouTube video showing a billowing black cloud over the incinerator.
The group Communities for Clean Air will host the town hall-style meeting at 2 p.m. at Foxboro Elementary School, followed by a march through the neighborhood to the plant.
