OGDEN — The St. Joseph Jayhawks celebrated the Region 18 baseball crown on Monday following a 13-3 victory over Dugway at Ogden High’s field.

The Jayhawks moved to 12-1 in league play, 13-5 overall. St. Joseph has one game to play before next Tuesday’s state 1-A quarterfinals.

“With two seniors and a senior manager, we have a young team. To see them come together like they have this year has been impressive,” coach Steve Mendez said. “When they work as a group, they are unstoppable.”

Monday, Alex Sloan pitched a five-inning viftory, allowing just four hits. He helped himself at the plate too, with three hits and an RBI for the Jayhawks.

Mason White and Dan Donlevy also each had a pair of hits as part of the 13-hit attack.

St. Joseph won the region title in 2006 and 2008.

Next up is the eight-team 1-A tournament, a single-elimination battle at Spanish Fork High School.

St. Joseph will play next Tuesday at 10 a.m., taking on the No. 3 seed from Region 20.

The semifinals are Oct. 11 with the championship on Oct. 12.

“We’ll continue to work hard on our hitting and getting on base,” Mendez said. “The kids are confindent, but they know they must continue to work together.”
