I'm writing in response to the October 1 article, "Shutdown orders issued as Congress misses deadline." This article depicts how the Republicans and Democrats have not been able to come to an agreement concerning implementation of Obamacare, causing funding to be halted and federal agencies to be shut down.
While I believe that people have a right of freedom of speech and idea, especially regarding political parties, the federal government should not be allowed to hold the public hostage in order to force their ideas on the opposing party. The government of the United States has always been for the people and that should not change because political parties cannot compromise and work together.
This problem is affecting the whole nation; there is not a single state that has been spared. The issue is not about which political views a person supports, but how the government officials, who were elected to work for the good of the people have placed their own political views above the good of the community as a whole. Many critical services will continue to be provided, it is the everyday Americans that are paying the cost of this inconvenience, and their lives are being affected. Additionally, hundreds of thousands of federal workers are furloughed and veterans' centers, national parks/monuments and other governments operations are closed turning visitors away.
The political fight between the Democrats and Republicans is causing contention between people in diverse parties' because individual opportunities have come to a standstill as those in Washington point fingers instead of working together as a whole to solve problems and keep our country running smoothly.
