Robert Best of Roy, formerly of Brigham City, will celebrate his 80th birthday with family at his home on Oct. 13.
He was born on Oct. 12, 1933, in Omaha, Neb., to Robert and Evelyn Best. His sister and her husband are Sherry and Gary Jennings, Houston. He was raised and educated in North Platte, Neb. While in high school, he joined the National Guard. After graduation, he married Lois Lagerquist. They had a son Greg Lunkwitz. They moved to Salt Lake City, and he was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. He and Lois later divorced.
He attended Ex-Cel-Cis Beauty College.
While in Salt Lake City, he met and married Ronda Moncur. They had a daughter and a son: Holly Walker and Kim Best.
He opened a beauty school in Brigham City and later opened his own salon. They moved to Brigham City and years later divorced.
In 1981, he met and married Gay Fackrell. She brought to their union a daughter Natalie Smith.
He retired in 2004 with 45 years as a hairdresser, a job he enjoyed.
He enjoys spending time with family and friends.
He used to race motorcycles on a national level. He owned a Harley-Davidson, which he enjoyed riding with famiy and friends. He also owned his own airplane and enjoyed flying. He enjoys skydiving, camping, traveling, boating, fishing, reading, golfing, billiards and playing cards.
He has four children, 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with one due in January.
