SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- The Mustangs pounded the ball for 365 yards on the ground.
The Wildcats were running backward.
Cal Poly ran over Weber State for a 47-0 Big Sky Conference win in front of 5,824 fans at Spanos Stadium on Saturday.
The 'Cats rushed 32 times for 53 yards, an average of 1.65 yards per carry -- only surpassing the one yard per carry mark in the waning moments of the game --while heading for their sixth straight loss.
WSU was held without an offensive touchdown for the third time this season while being shut out for the first time since 2009, and the first time by a Big Sky opponent since 2002.
"They did a great job of stopping our run," Weber State coach Jody Sears said. "I knew that their front seven were seasoned veterans ... but I thought we were going to be able to run the ball on them, take some pressure off of (freshman quarterback Austin Chipoletti) and get our play-action game going a little bit, but you've got to tip your hat to them. They dominated the line of scrimmage."
Sophomore quarterback Dano Graves, the Mustangs' third starter this season, threw three touchdown passes in his first career start.
Graves, making the start after Vince Moraga was lost for the season and Chris Brown injured his hip, had no problem operating the eighth-leading rushing offense in the country. The Air Force transfer executed the option offense like a savvy Falcon veteran, rushing 17 times for 116 yards and completing an efficient 13 of 16 passes for 169 yards.
Kristaan Ivory, the top rusher in the Big Sky Conference, finished with his third 100 yard game of the season, hitting 100 exactly on 18 carries. Ivory nearly added to his resume in the third quarter with a perfectly thrown deep ball intended for Carson McMurtrey that was knocked away by WSU corner Deon'tae Florence at the last second.
Cal Poly (3-3, 2-0) stayed unbeaten in league play. Weber State (1-6, 0-3 Big Sky), which hasn't won since Week 1, played again without two of its top tacklers, injured linebackers Anthony Morales and Luke King.
Defensively, Adam Padilla, Chris Jones and Roman Valenzuela led the Wildcats with 13 tackles apiece.
Offensively, nothing clicked.
Midway through the third quarter, Weber State had rushed the ball 21 times for 15 yards.
WSU converted just four of 16 third downs as the Wildcats struggled again to continue drives after entering the game ranked 114th in the nation on third down conversions.
Freshman quarterback Austin Chipoletti completed 16 of 23 passes for 115 yards, while Weber State's leading rusher, Tony Schmitz, had 18 yards on four fourth-quarter carries. Those carries, his first rushes of the season, finally pushed the Wildcats over one yard per carry for the game.
Erik Walker caught eight passes for 55 yards.
Meanwhile, the Mustangs ran their game plan.
Cal Poly rushed for 183 yards in the first half, while the Wildcats managed 11 yards on 14 carries.
Ivory was golden, scoring three times before the break, twice on the ground and once through the air, including a 5-yard run with 12 seconds left in the half to provide a 20-0 lead.
Weber State missed an early opportunity when a Tony Epperson punt bounced off a Cal Poly player and rolled into the end zone near a Weber State player, but the Mustangs beat him to the ball to fall on it for a touchback instead of a WSU special teams score.
The only -- minor -- break the Wildcats caught was when Cal Poly's Bobby Zalud missed a point after attempt for the first misfire of his career in 71 tries.
