Kathleen Jo Kariya age 63, passed away on October 8, 2013 in Jasper County, Iowa when the moving van in which she was traveling lost control and rolled on I-80. Kathy was born December 7, 1949 in Ogden, Utah to Shigeo and Yoshie S. Kariya. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1968 and was employed for over 30 years by the Internal Revenue Service until her retirement in 2010. Kathy also helped her mother and father in the Kariya family restaurant business known as Kay's Noodle Parlor until 1984. Kathy had a love for life and enjoyed traveling, doing crafts, reading, shopping and going out to lunch with her friends and loved ones. She loved family and friends and she went out of her way to help anybody who needed it. She always put others before herself. She truly was the back bone and heart of her family.
Kathy is survived by her siblings Linda (Gordon) Arita, Glen, Carol (Alfred) Stuckman, and Marilyn, nephew Matthew Arita, and nieces Kristen Arita, Mandi (Brett) Andersen, and Stephanie (Gary) Duran, and great-nieces Isabele, Nevaeh and great-nephew Vincent. Kathy loved all of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children and had a special bond with Isabel, they were the very best of friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents Yoshie and Shigeo Kariya. She requested there be no services.
