Hundreds of thousands of employees were out of work for over two weeks. Many of these Americans still had to pay for gas, mortgages, babysitters, doctor's appointments, etc, without a paycheck. For a few senators and representatives to hold jobs and America hostage for political gains or forbidden promises is extortion, to say the least.
This shutdown didn't just affect government workers; it affected all Americans and could have been devastating to this country.
Sen. Hatch and Rep. Matheson are the only two Utah delegates who voted to end the shutdown. Reps. Stewart, Chaffetz, Bishop and Sen. Lee would have rather seen us all go off the cliff. This tells us that these delegates do not support or represent Utah, or America for that matter, as they were elected to. Rather, they support their political greed and fear for their primary elections. They would rather have thousands of employees continue to work without pay, watch the economy fall apart, while they were being paid with impact to them or their families.
This action should be remembered in Novembers to come. They should be shamed and replaced. If we were only working at a mere 5 percent approval rating from our employers, we would have been fired.
Hence, the remembering----I hope it catches on across the country for others who voted "no" and they all get replaced eventually!
