SALT LAKE CITY -- Intermountain Healthcare was named the No. 7 innovator as part of this year's InformationWeek 500 - a list of the top 500 technology innovators in the U.S. Intermountain was ranked third of 70 hospitals or healthcare organizations that made the list. Intermountain was recognized for its innovative approach to reduce infections.
Intermountain teams worked with clinicians to develop and test a watch-like device that includes a temperature sensor, LED visual alert, and radio frequency identification technology. With those components, it detects the use of soap or any cleanser when applied to the skin. It then visually reminds clinicians to wash their hands, while in a patient's room, by turning red or green.
