BRIGHAM CITY -- A 7-year-old boy was hospitalized with what was believed to be a broken leg Monday after a vehicle hit him.
Brigham City Police Lt. Mike Nelson said the boy had just gotten out of school at Mountain View Elementary School when the accident happened, around 2:50 p.m.
He was walking west on the sidewalk of 700 South, near the 550 East intersection, when he saw his father parked across the road. The boy darted into the street without checking for traffic, Nelson said.
A 53-year-old man in an oncoming vehicle hit the boy, who was shielded from view by a parked car.
The man was driving less than 10 mph because he had just been stopped at a crosswalk.
Suspected of having a broken femur, but otherwise OK, the boy was taken to Brigham City Community Hospital.
Nelson said that if the man had been driving the speed limit of 25 mph, the result likely would have been much worse.
