SOUTH OGDEN -- A former science teacher and Boy Scout leader already facing child porn charges was arrested Monday on suspicion of child sex abuse crimes.
Kenneth Prince, 61, was originally arrested in September and charged with five second-degree felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor after police allegedly found child porn on his computer.
Out on bail, Prince was arrested again Monday on two counts of suspicion of aggravated child sex abuse, though South Ogden officer Marci Edwards declined to elaborate on whether new information led to the new arrest. As of Monday afternoon, formal charges had not been filed for alleged abuse, according to court records.
South Ogden Detective Brian Shultz told the Standard-Examiner last month that after Prince's original arrest, several accusers came forward to police, though their allegations hadn't been confirmed.
Prince was a science teacher at South Ogden Junior High School from 1979 to 2008. He was also a Boy Scout leader for several years, though according to a statement from Allen Endicott, Scout executive with Boy Scouts of America, Prince had not been registered with the Trapper Trails Council since 2003.
Days after he was charged, Prince was hospitalized after reportedly attempting suicide by drinking mercury.
Prince is set to appear in court today on the sexual exploitation of a minor charges. Edwards was unsure if charges stemming from Monday's arrest would be filed before his court appearance.
The investigation into Prince began after an accuser came forward to police. South Ogden police are asking anyone else with information on Prince's alleged crimes to call police dispatch at 801-629-8221.
