OGDEN -- A 65-year-old man was arrested for allegedly giving a 10-year-old girl rides to school, without her parent's knowledge, and sexually assaulting her.
John Joseph McKnight was arrested Friday afternoon by police and booked on suspicion of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.
According to a probable cause affidavit, a teacher at Gramercy Elementary observed the girl with McKnight.
Police interviewed the victim at the Children's Justice Center. They said she disclosed that she met McKnight while walking to school one day on Park Boulevard. He offered to give her free rides to school in his vehicle, according to the statement.
McKnight was also interviewed and admitted to abusing the girl along with buying her things and giving her money.
It is unknown how long this series of incidents took place.
Interviews with the girl's parents and McKnight indicated that they do not know each other and that the suspect was a stranger to the girl, befriending her with the intent to commit the offense, according to the statement.
