WEST VALLEY CITY -- Utah law enforcement officials say a four-day special operation recovered 29 stolen cars that disappeared from West Valley City and neighboring cities in recent months.
West Valley City Police said in a statement Monday afternoon that 53 people were arrested as a result of the multi-agency effort.
Police say they also recovered three stolen engines and four stolen guns.
Sgt. Jason Hauer says the operation was a response to a jump in thefts over the past few months.
The operation was a joint effort by the state Department of Public Safety and Motor Vehicle Enforcement and Unified, Salt Lake City, South Salt Lake, North Salt Lake, West Valley City police departments.
