OGDEN -- Aluminum Builders Inc. has you covered.
It isn't unusual for homeowners in the Top of Utah to decide they need additional exterior covering to make life more enjoyable.
It may be window awnings to protect rooms with sun-facing windows.
It may be an additional carport to protect vehicles from the hot sun during the summer and the ice and snow of winter.
It may be a patio cover to make that outdoor living space more welcoming, with greater comfort and for longer times during the seasons.
Justin Johnson is the third-generation owner of Aluminum Builders, 3214 Washington Blvd., having completed the purchase of the business from his father just last year.
He said the sales of aluminum additions has remained fairly constant, while sales of spas and saunas are "coming back" after taking a hit during the economic downturn.
Johnson said the additions his business supplies for homes are designed to be strong as well as aesthetically pleasing.
The need for window awnings for many homeowners arises "when the sun blasts into rooms, making the room hot, fading carpet and eating up furniture."
"Some homeowners will add awning to just those windows, while others will add them to every window," he said.
Johnson credits the extremes of Utah's weather for the popularity of carports.
"In Utah, we have extremes of the seasons," he said. "People don't want the hot, summer sun eating at their paint jobs, or the damage from snow and ice in the winter."
Patio awnings add a lot for homeowners and their families, Johnson said.
"They extend living space without the cost of a full-blown addition," he said. "Patio covers extend the season you can use them. People barbecue longer. It is easier to entertain. There is protection from the weather, and some even use them for their pets, so they have a dry place to go to in the winter."
