NORTH OGDEN -- If you want to take a walk back in time, meander through an array of luxury home items and maybe buy a hot tub while you're at it, you need to head to Bullfrog Spas unique showroom in the North Ogden Cannery Center.
Shawn Maynard purchased the North Ogden Cannery building in 2003 and spent the next several years restoring and renovating the old building while keeping its original brick and timber design. You can still see the original "North Ogden Canning Co...1901" on the front of the building.
In 2006, the Cannery became home to the Weber/Davis Bullfrog Factory Outlet Store. The business did so well that first summer, the showroom was moved to the newly renovated digs that is now the largest hot-tub showroom in the state. Last year Maynard was named Dealer of the Year, selling more hot tubs than any other Bullfrog Spa dealer in the country.
"What makes our spas better than any other hot tub is a unique technology called the JetPak Therapy System that allows you to choose the type of hydro massage for your own personal needs," Maynard says.
He said that people buy spas for many reasons, but most use them for therapy.
"If you have arthritis, a sports injury, back problems or even stress and stiffness, sitting in a hot tub can bring a lot of relief and is often advised by doctors and chiropractors," he said.
"Where that pain is, can be different for each individual, and that is what makes the Bullfrog spa a better fit for most people -- since we don't have holes drilled into the tub itself for the jets, we have a removable unit that can be personally designed to a person's needs."
The JetPak's water-delivery system is directly behind the seat backs in the spa, submerged in the warm spa water. Heat is transferred directly between the H2Air Manifold and the spa water, so heat is not lost to the outside as with other hot tubs. The result is 90 percent less plumbing -- and cost of operation that is better than any other spa, Maynard said. Instead of drilling holes in the tub itself, the JetPak just clips into the seat of the spa.
Maynard said with this method of construction, you can customize your spa in a way you never could before.
"The tubs range anywhere from $5,000 to $15,000 and come with JetPaks that you can personally design to fit your needs. Go home and live with it for 30 days, and if there's something you want changed, it will be changed at no charge," Maynard said.
Another feature of the Bullfrog Spa is its wood-free structure, using materials that are waterproof and guaranteed for life not to rot, warp or corrode. The spa can sit on gravel or dirt; a concrete pad or deck are not required.
"Bullfrog Spas are headquartered and built right here in Utah. We personally deliver, set up and service every spa we sell."
"One of our busiest times is the Christmas season. Many of our customers are buying a hot tub as a surprise for the family. Often we deliver the spa the week before Christmas, while the family is away from home, and hide the spa with patio furniture, so that it stays hidden and is a surprise on Christmas morning."
Maynard said he loves what he does, and as far as the building itself is concerned -- it is still a work in progress.
