In the race for Ogden City Council at-large Seat A, the Standard-Examiner Editorial Board recommends a vote for Marcia L. White.
Both candidates for this seat impress us. However, White's command of the issues, coupled with her work experience, provides Ogden residents a future council member who will provide excellent ideas and solutions for many of Junction City's challenges. On the issue of transportation, White understands that Ogden needs a plan that addresses how to move persons around the city in the most safe and efficient manner. The plan will also need to be flexible enough to address the growth of the city and allow Ogden to always easily connect with other cities and counties throughout Utah, she adds.
Water revenue in Ogden, White understands, is to be used only for the water fund and its infrastructure. White wants to use her experience as an industrial and systems engineer to find efficiencies in city projects, including upgrades and other construction projects. One idea is to make sure that when one project is being done, that related projects also be done in order to avoid re-work.
White understands the benefits that come with more Ogden residents owning homes, citing that it boosts the city's tax funds. She will be a strong supporter of programs, such as Own in Ogden, that enable residents to buy homes. She also supports the city's Good Landlord program that works to assure renters that the apartment complexes are safe and attractive.
White is committed to long-term efforts to make Ogden an attractive outdoor sports city, understanding that interests in cycling, and other recreational activities, bring related businesses here.
White is a smart, energetic candidate who will bring a positive, effective voice to Ogden's leadership. The city needs her in the council.
