WEST VALLEY CITY -- Police say one of three suspects in a West Valley City home invasion has died after he was choked unconscious by an occupant of the home.
Investigators say 29-year-old Robert Ebere died from his injuries Friday, two days after he allegedly entered a home in search of drugs and cash, and pointed a gun at a woman inside.
He was subsequently held in a choke hold long enough that he was in critical condition when emergency responders arrived.
Police say the occupant accused of putting Ebere in the hold, 31-year-old Javier Mendoza-Trujillo, probably will not face charges in the death.
But The Salt Lake Tribune reports the U.S. Attorney's Office has charged him with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute after 9 pounds of cocaine and a large amount of cash were found inside the home.
Police have not identified the other two suspects and were continuing a search for them.
Several adults and five children were inside the home at the time.
