Riverdale couple celebrates
Joseph R. and LaVon P. Allen celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary with their children.
They were married on Nov. 8, 1938, in Coalville.
He was born on June 28, 1918, in Rockland, Idaho. He lived on farms in Rockland and Star Valley, Wyo. He moved to Ogden, where he attended school and graduated from Ogden High School. He married LaVon on Nov. 8, 1938. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 after the birth of his second daughter. Upon his return, he worked at Hill Air Force Base, retiring in 1973. He has enjoyed traveling, camping, coin collecting, creating stained-glass projects, his computer and playing bridge at Riverdale Senior Center.
He and LaVon spent many years wintering in Mesa, Ariz.
She was born on Aug. 22, 1918, in Sunset. She was raised on a farm in Roy. She made and kept many friends during her life and kept them close to her heart. She has devoted her life to her husband and family. She worked at the Navy Depot in Clearfield while her husband was in the Navy. Later she worked the Roy post office, Sand Ridge Junior High School and retired from HAFB.
They have traveled throughout the United States and visited many countries. She enjoys writing poetry and has enjoyed reading, dancing, bowling, golfing, playing bridge and family gatherings.
Their children and spouses are Sharon and Robert Elbrader, Connie and Cass Bettinger, and Jann and Scott Peterson. They have five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
