OGDEN -- Cottages of Hope is inviting the public to a free workshop to help families save for college.
The workshop will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mound Fort Junior High School library, 1396 Liberty Ave., Ogden.
Those who attend can learn about our state's Utah Educational Savings Plan.The administrators of this program from Salt Lake City will be on hand to answer questions and to help families set up accounts, according to a news release from Chris Swaner at Cottages of Hope.
The UESP is considered a qualified 529 College Savings plan that helps families save for their children's college education, while receiving tax benefits, the release states.
According to the release, benefits of the plan and workshop include:
* Tax-free growth.
* Multiple investment options.
* Savings can be used at any college, university, or technical school that accepts financial aid.
* Hands-on help for families to establish accounts.
* Refreshments will be served.
* Drawing for Ogden School District GearUp students (9th graders) with Student ID
UESP contributions might qualify you for a credit on your Utah tax return, the release states.
