SALT LAKE CITY -- On Friday night at The Complex, Fruit Heights cruiserweight Jesse West, a former Golden Gloves champ, looks to go 3-0 as a pro when he fights Benjamin Lee, of Las Vegas. And heavyweights Gary Cobia, of Clearfield, and Ogden's Fred Spitzenberg fight a four-rounder. It's a rematch of a fight that Spitzenberg won in 2012.
Also, women boxers Lisa Garland, of York, S.C., and Lucretia Meacham, of Pine Bluffs, Ark., meet for the WBU welterweight boxing championship. According to promoter Eddie "Flash" Newman, this will be the first women's professional boxing match in which there are 12, three-minute rounds.
Another scheduled championship bout, featuring Salt Lake City's Chris Fernandez, the WBU welterweight champ, was scrapped Wednesday night.
In a featured bout, Cesar Olmedo, of Salt Lake City, fights Antonio Montoya. Other fighters scheduled to be on the card include Utahns David Madrid, CJ Glover, as well as Donald Griffin and Beto Montoya.
The Complex is at 536 W. 100 South in Salt Lake City. The bouts start at 8 and doors open at 7.
