Thumbs up: To Dr. Brandon Fisher, of Layton, who has extended his medical talents beyond the Top of Utah. Fisher, an oncologist, founded RadiatingHope, a non-profit group that helps battle cancer in third world nations.
Thumbs down: To efforts to cut education costs for inmates. Education is the key to success for individuals when they leave jail or prison. Cutting its access is a big mistake.
Thumbs up: To the voters of Hyde Park, which rescinded a long ban on alcohol sales. The tax proceeds from the sales will be a boon for the community.
Thumbs down: To non-profit organizations that have lost money due to financial wrong-doing. It's becoming enough of a problem that Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, and others have urged that there be investigations on charities that game the system.
Thumbs up: To four cities, Layton, Roy, Clearfield, and Bountiful which are creating ethics commissions. It's a result of previous state legislative action to allows local government bodies to tackle ethics issues.
Thumbs down: To the cold weather and the aching joints that many of us associate with the onset of the big chills in Utah. Whether there's scientific evidence or personal anecdotes, we know that the bones, joints, etc. get worse as it the temperature consistently drops!
