WOODS CROSS -- A refinery here owned by HollyFrontier Corp. at 393 S. 800 West experienced a fire at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, that got a fair amount of attention from the community even though it remained under control throughout the day.
Workers were still making adjustments for the blaze in a container of crude oil used to make gasoline at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
Mike Astin, a company spokesman, said the community was never in any danger and no help was needed from area emergency personnel.
Astin said the fire was handled in-house and was contained except for one hour when Wood Cross police closed down 800 West.
Astin said the fire, which wasn't visible from outside the refinery and had to be allowed to burn, got public attention because a loud-speaker system designed to keep refinery personnel informed, alerted area residents to the blaze. In the future, he said, internal communications will be reviewed.
Company personnel tested the air in the area and found no danger from any fumes.
