Last week I read the letter of Nov. 13, "Park residents at mercy of corporations," the exorbitant fees charged by mobile home communities in our local counties. He mentioned that the lot fees at his community to be $475 dollars monthly. The residents here just received notice that another $18 dollars per month would be assessed as of Jan. 1, 2014, bringing our total monthly fee to $493 per month. This creates a generated income of $1,320,000 per year to the owners of the trailer court. These same owners are also selling 18 homes that are not within the HUD guidelines and are dangerous, barely worth their weight in scrap metal.
A neighbor friend was recently told that she could not move her home and that they would block her driveway to keep her from moving the home she owns outright.
I am over 80 years old and this inconsideration and harassment to me and seems like financial exploitation of vulnerable adults with mental despair and depression among many of us long-term residents. Sewers are not being monitored or cleared out, street lighting outages are not being replaced, they reap substantial profit from utility charges, and even the simple maintenance of repossessed homes is near non-existent, as the properties that are vacant and for sale aren't watered properly nor cared for reducing further my homes value.
