OGDEN -- A woman died just before midnight Thursday, Nov. 21, after being struck by a Jeep while crossing Wall Avenue earlier in the evening.
The auto-pedestrian accident occurred around 6:46 p.m. at Wall Avenue and Binford Street, according to a news release from Ogden City Police.
A 25-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were crossing eastbound at a painted crosswalk when a Jeep Wrangler, traveling northbound on the inside lane, hit the two pedestrians.
The woman received serious head trauma and was transported to the hospital by ambulance in serious condition. The man received an injury to his foot and was also transported to the hospital.
Police do not suspect alcohol or speeding as factors in the accident; however, high winds with debris and power outages along Wall Avenue may have posed visibility issues, Ogden Police Lt. Tim Scott said.
The crosswalk was recently created by the Utah Department of Transportation after the intersection was the location of multiple auto-pedestrian fatalities.
St. Anne's Center placed bright red flags at the crosswalk for pedestrians to carry, but they were not used by the two victims.
