Roy resident celebrates
Melba E. Colvin of Roy will celebrate her 100th birthday today, Nov. 24. She and her family will enjoy a dinner on Monday, Nov. 25, to celebrate this great milestone in her life. Her ward will hold an open house for her from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 30, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints North Park Ward, 2175 W. 4250 South, Roy. No gifts.
She was born in Eden to William and Laura Montgomery on Nov. 24, 1913. She spent her childhood in Eden and graduated from Weber High School in 1931. She married Lorenzo "Doc" Colvin in Idaho on Jan. 7, 1932. Later on April 21, 1961, their vows were solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. They have lived in Eden, California and Ogden. He died November 1993. They were married for 61 years.
She still enjoys gardening and keeping a nice-looking yard. She also likes to read. She has been active in the church for most of her life, holding many positions, mostly associated with music in some way. While living in Eden, she wrote a history of the Eden LDS Ward. She still goes visiting teaching every month.
Her two daughters and spouses are Deneese and (Russell deceased) Keoppel, and Lynn and Robert Burt. She has nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
