Arlene Adele Kennington of Farr West celebrated her 80th birthday at a family gathering.
The oldest of four children, she was born Nov. 25, 1933, to Chauncy Richard and Jennie Roberts in a little white house in Cokeville, Wyo. She married Donald Kennington on Oct. 29, 1951.
Their six children and spouses are Dee and Kristine Johnson, Steve and Karlene Hall, Keeth and Laurel Kennington, Kendell and Luann Kennington, Brad and Kayleen Anderson, and Kory and Tina Kennington. They have 33 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.
She worked at the Internal Revenue Service for more than 30 years and made dinner for her husband when he came home from shoeing horses at "dark-thirty" because he worked until dark.
Her children say she has been the best mother they could have ever had. They also say that she and her husband taught them that if a job is worth doing, it's worth doing well.
She enjoys music, and plays the organ and piano. She also enjoys being involved in her church and doing family history work. She served an LDS mission to the Ogden Family History Center for more than 10 years.
She has authored and published two books on her family's history and six books of her husband's cowboy poetry.
