SALT LAKE CITY - A South Ogden man has been identified as the fatality victim in a single-vehicle crash Thanksgiving afternoon that closed a section of Interstate 80 for three hours.
Police have identified Steven T. Parker, 46, as the man killed in the fiery incident.
The crash was at 3:07 p.m. at the northbound milepost 1.7 of Interstate 215 at the ramp to take I-80 east.
A Utah Highway Patrol press release said that for an unknown reason, Parker's vehicle drove onto the right shoulder, up an embankment, vaulted over the bridge at 3000 South, hit a large light pole with its top and came to rest on the north-side embankment of I-80 westbound.
"The vehicle became fully engulfed (in fire) and the single male occupant died before any units arrived," said the press release.
Parker was driving a 2005 black Cadillac Escalade.
The northbound ramp to I-80 eastbound was closed as a result of the incident.
I-80 westbound traffic was routed onto the ramp to I-215.
Roads were opened three hours after the crash.
