As one of the founders of Shop with a Hero, I would like to take a minute and mention some extraordinary students from Bonneville High School.
I work as a deputy for the Weber County Sheriff's Office and every year we take children on a Christmas shopping spree who would otherwise not have Christmas. We approached the student body adviser, Bob Scovill from Bonneville High School, about doing a fundraiser for us, "for this costs quite a bit of money."
He talked with his student body officer's and they were on board. The student officers raise money all year for this event penny by penny, rain or shine. These young adults are at every game, every event, raising money for this very worthy event. They also arrive at five a.m. at a Roy Cafe on 5600 South (1780 West) to see all their hard work in action. That local cafe is our other "true sponsor and unsung hero," with food and labor to feed the kids and officers. Then it's off to shop for the kids with "lights and sirens, and of course Santa." In our tough economic times, it has been hard to fund this yearly event.
Thank you to all the police officers and all of the agencies in Weber County who participate in this event and bring children (that they have personally had to help in some way during their police duties). You are truly heroes in my book. Thank you to everyone involved.
