HILL AIR FORCE BASE - U.S. Air Force F-16 pilots from Hill's 388thand 419th FighterWings are currently conducting night flying through Dec. 19. Localresidents can expect anincrease in noise during the evening hours as pilotssharpen their nighttimecombat flying skills.
The wings willconduct these missions Monday through Thursday until aboutmidnight.
The active duty388th FW and the Reserve 419th FW limit night flyingoperations to the minimum required to remain combat readyfor 24-houroperations. Nighttime presents many unique challenges forfighter pilotsmaneuvering in simulated combat scenarios and it isimportant the pilots gettraining repetitions before being called to action.
When deployed in a combat environment, pilots regularlyfly missions duringdarkness using night vision goggles in addition to theirnormal sensors andavionics.
