Jane Ann Slater Johns slipped peacefully away on December 17, 2013 to join those dear, dear loved ones who preceded her in death. Jane Ann was born April 12, 1928, at the old Dee Hospital, the second of four daughters born to Horace H. Slater Joey and Gladys Shaw Slater. Jane Ann Attended Mound Fort School through 10th grade and graduated from Ogden High in 1946. She was Girls Association President her senior year. She attended Weber Junior College for two years. It was a marvelous, special time with wonderful friends, great teachers and a talented student body. Janie was the first president of the newly organized girls social club, Sharmea.She was Vice President of the graduating class of 1947 - 48. She graduated in 1950 from Utah State Agricultural College (Utah State) with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. She was a member of the national Scholastic Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
In 1952 - 1954 Jane served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in the French Mission which included all of France, part of Belgium, and a little part of Switzerland. She dearly loved the people in the areas in which she served. She always yearned to return.
On December 17, 1954, Jane married Max Claridge Johns in the Logan Temple. They were blessed with three wonderful, thoughtful children that she dearly loved. They were the jewels in her crown.
Jane taught children in elementary school; four years in the Logan City District and 31 years in the Ogden City School District.She loved teaching.
Jane also worked as a transcriptionist at McKay Dee Hospital and was known as "The Queen". She had many wonderful true friends there.
Jane worked in various positions as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. But her favorite calling was as director of the ward choir.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Max; her dear father and mother; her dear special Aunt Hazel Zerbe; her two wonderful sisters, Donna Ruthie (Nolan Schultz) and Carol Westmoreland. Jane was also preceded in death by a very special, dear friend, Tommy Trude.
Jane is survived by her son, Tracy Slater Johns; her daughter, Penny (Rod Dalpias) and youngest daughter, Ann. Her wonderful grandchildren are Justin and Christopher Johns; Emily, Kelly, Brittany, Ryhal, and Max Dalpias; Jaida and Jaxson Johns, Tarra (John) Tippetts and Tiffany (Rusty) Erickson; also surviving is her sister, Sharon (Thomas) Burton and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Rock Cliff 7th Ward, 300 Gramercy.A viewing will be held on Sunday, December 22st from 6 to 8 p.m.and Monday, from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at Myers Evergreen Memorial Park, 100 Monroe Blvd.
In lieu of flowers Jane suggests donations be made to organizations helping children.
