Dick and Fernande Klos of Syracuse will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. On Dec. 24, 1963, U.S. Air Force member Richard Klos of Long Island, N.Y., met and married Fernande Majeres of Luxembourg, where they were also married. Even though she spoke no English at the time, she says she knew in her heart that she loved him and was prepared to pursue an exciting life adventure with him.
He served with the Air Force from 1960 to 1982, retiring while stationed at Hill Air Force Base. He worked at the base as a federal civil servant from 1983 to 2008. Today he continues to work in the defense field as a contractor.
She retired from HAFB in 2006 where she spent 27 years of service as a cook at the clubs on base. Many people requested her specialty of making the best sandwiches ever. The family says she had a special touch and friendly personality.
For the past few years, they have enjoyed many camping trips and vacations in their RV. They enjoy visiting and sightseeing new places each time.
They have made Utah home for most of the last 35 years. They have three children: John Klos, JoAnn Longo, and Karen and Scott Justice.
They also have four grandchildren.
