Nutrition begins with n-u-t

If you eat a handful of nuts every day, you might just live a little longer than those who don't consume them.

In the largest study of its kind, reported in the New England Journal of Medicine, people who ate a daily handful of nuts were 20 percent less likely to die from any cause over a 30-year period than those who didn't consume nuts. The study was conducted at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Harvard School of Public Health. The report also found that regular nut eaters were more slender than those not eating nuts, a finding scientists say should alleviate the widespread worry that eating a lot of nuts will lead to weight gain.
