William "Bill" Penn Rizley of South Ogden celebrated his 80th birthday at a family dinner.
He was born on Dec. 31, 1933, in Dyersburg, Tenn., to Charles and Mary Francis Rizley. After graduating from high school, he joined the military and was stationed at Hill Air Force Base. While stationed in Ogden, he met Shirley Richardson. Shortly after his discharge, they were married on Sept. 20, 1956, in Beaumont, Texas. They lived in Texas a short time before returning to Ogden, where they have lived since.
He worked at the U.S. Postal Service for a few years before transferring to Hill Air Force Base as a civilian, where he worked for 38 years before retiring. He also had a second career with Sears, where he spent 47 years working in the paint and hardware departments.
He enjoys spending time working in his yard, taking his dog Tasha for walks, his weekly visits with his grandson Jordan Rizley, watching The Price is Right and Jeopardy and traveling. He has been on 11 cruises, visited many countries and has been to almost all of the United States. He enjoys being with family and recently spent a week in Hawaii with 30 of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His children are Mark and Gayle Rizley, Centerville; Machelle Canfield, Clinton; Larry and Trudi Rizley, West Haven; and Dena Stewart, South Jordan. He has 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
