SNOWBASIN -- Investigators from the West Valley City Police Department retrieved a body from near Snowbasin Ski Resort about 5 p.m. Tuesday after an all-day body recovery mission.
Police believe the body is that of a man who has been missing since early December but declined to confirm his identity pending further forensic investigation.
West Valley City police received information on the location of a male body in connection to a missing person case and began searching the area west of the resort with the assistance of the Weber County Sheriff's Office, said West Valley City Deputy Chief Mike Powell.
He would not confirm if the circumstances were suspicious or how police learned of the body's location.
Search-and-rescue units met difficulty reaching the body because of snowy conditions despite working on the recovery since early in the morning, Powell said.
He added the snow was nearly 6 feet deep in the search area.
