Have you ever been told to “mind your language” or “mind your P's and Q's”? We frequently hear statements made about the need for children to “mind their parents” or “mind their manners.” Sometimes, perhaps, we forget that all of this minding has in common an underlying sense of the need for an awareness of our words and our behaviors.
The value of purposeful awareness has come to the attention of educators and parents. Mindfulness is a concept that Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn describes as intentionally bringing awareness or focused attention to the present moment. His research over the last 30 years has given credence to the importance of awareness in managing stress in our daily lives.
No one needs to be convinced that the daily life of a parent is stressful.
