BLANDING - A Bountiful woman and her son are safe after they escaped her estranged husband who allegedly beat her and abducted both of them.
Synthia Rowland and her 14-year-old son were reported missing by family members Sunday night, according to a release from Bountiful Police. Officers checked the woman's home, but saw no signs of any crime.
At about 9:54 a.m. on Monday, Rowland was able to alert her mother through text message that she and her son had been abducted by Dwayne Rowland, her estranged husband, according to the release. She indicated that they were in the Moab - Green River area.
Area law enforcement in Utah, Colorado and New Mexico were alerted about the suspect vehicle, a grey 1999 Chevy Blazer.
At about 11:35 a.m., the vehicle was found by police in Blanding. Dwayne Rowland was arrested without incident and booked into the San Juan County Jail, pending transport to the Davis County Jail.
Synthia Rowland was transported to a local hospital for injuries from assault.
It is unknown what the husband's motivation was for abducting the two, but investigators learned that they were enroute to Georgia where he has family.
