Rich and Carol Blake celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family at the Maddox Ranch House on Dec. 27.
The couple met at Brigham Young University, and they were married on Jan. 30, 1964, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple.
He graduated from Orem High School and served in the Central Atlantic States Mission. Later he graduated from Brigham Young University, the University of Oregon, and the University of Utah before joining the teacher education faculty at Weber State University, where he taught for 30 years before retiring in 2004.
She graduated from Minico High School in Paul, Idaho, before attending BYU. After being married, she enjoyed teaching piano lessons while being a stay-at-home-mom for many years. She later completed her education at WSU in social work and taught child abuse prevention in the schools and community .
Both have been involved in community service, as well as serving many callings in the LDS Church. After retirement, they served together in the Washington Tacoma Mission, the Kenya Nairobi Mission in Africa, and as ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple. They enjoy volunteering, spending time with family, traveling, and escaping to their mountain retreat cabin.
Their children and spouses are Cheryl and Dean Saunders, Donna and Charlie Reynolds, Scott and Lisa Blake, Lane and Jamie Blake, Matt Blake (deceased), April and Brian Hadley, and Devan Blake. They have 24 grandchildren.
