Valentine's Day is a great time for cupcake cuisine.

The cupcakes craze has died down a bit in the past couple of years, but they will never really go out of style, according to Janell Brown, owner of the One Sweet Slice bakeries in South Jordan and Sandy.

As a winner of the Food Network's "Cupcake Wars," Brown shares some of her recipes and baking tips in a cookbook, "One Sweet Cupcake" (Cedar Fort, $21.99). She is currently working on a second cookbook about -- you guessed it -- cupcakes.

"Cupcakes are definitely a long-term trend," said Brown in a telephone interview. "They have been popular for over 12 years now. But cake has been around for hundreds of years, and it will continue to be popular, although the form may change that it's served in, whether it's as a cupcake or a crazy cake or a carved cake."

For Valentine's Day, cupcakes lend themselves to hearts, flowers, flourishes and all kinds of cutesy decorations.
