Vergil N. Zaugg of Clearfield celebrated his 80th birthday on March 8, 2014 with a surprise birthday party planned by his children. He was born March 8, 1934 to Paul and Helen Nebeker Zaugg.
He has two brothers and three sisters and he spent his early years on the family farm learning to work the land, accomplish farm chores of all kinds as well as develop and hone superior wood-working skills. He owned and operated a home building business for many years and also worked for some of the large building contractors in the area. He built the family home and homes for a couple of his children. Vergil continues to work the land growing alfalfa, seasonal gardening and he continues to provide his children and grandchildren with this wonderful wood creations such as handmade furniture, bookshelves, lamps, bowls etc.
He graduated from Davis High School and then served a mission for the LDS Church. After completing his mission, he returned home and married his High School sweetheart Bernice Nelson on July 5, 1956 in the Logan LDS Temple. Early on they spent time in South Carolina, while Vergil served his counry. They are the parents of seven children. He has served in many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and has enjoyed them all. He is currently the Patriarch for the Clearfield North Stake.
At present he enjoys traveling, camping, various outdoor activities, games, family outings and spending holidays with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His children and their spouses are Pam and John Sparks, Jeff and Sheri Zaugg, Vicki and Therald Wells, Brett and Suzanne Zaugg, Troy Zaugg, Cathy and Adam Richards and Kipp and Heidi Zaugg. He has 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
