Skateboarder OK after collision in Ogden

OGDEN -- An 11-year-old skateboarder was lucky that he was wearing a backpack Saturday when he collided with a moving vehicle.

"The backpack took much of the brunt of the impact," said Police Lt. Scott Conley.

The skateboarder was headed north on a sidewalk in the 900 block of Orchard Avenue at 12:44 p.m., Conley said, when he went into the street to pass two friends who were also on skateboards.

A green 2003 Chevy Cavalier traveling south on Orchard Avenue hit the boy. He flew up over the hood and smashed against the windshield, shattering the glass.

The backpack hit the glass first and the boy suffered minor injuries consisting of scrapes and abrasions, Conley said.

The car's driver, a 42-year-old Ogden man, was cited for driving with an expired license and not having insurance.
