Families welcomed to fun-filled Mondays at Station Park

FARMINGTON — Families strolled around Farmington’s Station Park on Monday night and enjoyed a slew of pirate activities, dancing contests and slime-making, as part of the first of many family nights planned by the shopping area in hopes of bringing families together.

“Families and being a part of the community is a huge part of our company culture, so when we (CenterCal Properties) build our properties, including Station Park, we want to make sure there are events focused on good family entertainment and provide a gathering place for the community,” said JP Swain, marketing manager for Station Park.

They plan to host family nights the first Monday of every month until October, with a plethora of themes for families to enjoy. In upcoming months Station Park will host a monster night, a beach party and several themed nights related to popular Disney Junior programs, hosted by Radio Disney and Macaroni Kid.

Learn whether the repair on a rental should be expensed or depreciated

Do you have rental property? Deducting expenses with rental property can be complicated. Most minor repairs can be immediately expensed out when filing your tax return. However, repairs that improve the value of the property must be capitalized over the life of the rental. There is confusion on what defines a repair and a capital improvement. Starbucks uses ‘online coffee klatches’ to reach 1 billion worldwide

By MELISSA ALLISON

Back in the social-media Stone Age, about 2005, customers who yearned to interact with Starbucks could talk to a barista or read quotes on its coffee cups.

‘‘Love wins,” read quote No. 257, from television and radio host Tavis Smiley.

‘‘Evolution is beautiful,” said No. 35, creating a bit of a stink in anti-evolution circles.

Vic Bachman (left) and Nate Hall prepare to remove a 12-foot-long beehive at an Eden cabin recently. Bachman, who owns Deseret Hive Supply in Ogden, says most hives are about 3 feet long and that this one grew so large because it had been growing since 1996. The cabin’s owners didn’t want the bees hurt or killed because the insects weren’t hurting anyone, but now a baby is around and they want to prevent any problems. Bachman, Hall and Bachman’s wife and son vacuumed the bees and transported them to Bachman’s commercial hives. (Courtesy photo)

Hive at Eden cabin larger than the norm at 12 feet long

EDEN — Beekeeper Vic Bachman knew the hive he’d been hired to remove in early April would be large, but when he stepped into the wooden cabin in Eden that day, he had no idea how large.

By the time the whole hive was removed, six hours later, the measurement came in at 12 feet long, far larger than any hive Bachman, who owns Deseret Hive Supply in Ogden, had ever encountered.

“I haven’t seen one that huge,” he said, adding that most hives would be about 3 feet long.
