Lessons 'SNL' can learn from live '30 Rock'

CHICAGO -- Here's a question: What, if anything, can "Saturday Night Live" learn from the live episode of "30 Rock" that recently aired?

When "30 Rock" broadcast its first live episode in 2010, the experiment was interesting in theory, disappointing in practice. But credit to the sitcom's creators for cooking up another effort. Not because it was one of the show's best outings. It wasn't. But it was an intriguing example of what a live sketch comedy show could -- and, I would argue, should -- be attempting to do from week to week.

Fox celebrates 25th anniversary with star-studded special

Don't miss

"Fox's 25th Anniversary Special" -- The ubiquitous Ryan Seacrest (who else?) is our host for this rousing two-hour celebration of the greatest hits produced by a network that launched in 1987 with a feisty, maverick attitude and brought big changes to prime time. Stars scheduled to appear and reminisce include Calista Flockhart ("Ally McBeal"); Kiefer Sutherland ("24"); David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson ("The X-Files"); Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal and Christina Applegate ("Married ... With Children"); Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler ("American Idol"); Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher ("That '70s Show"); and Gabrielle Carteris, Shannen Doherty and Jason Priestley. ("Beverly Hills, 90210"). Meanwhile, the proud combatants of "Celebrity Boxing" are wondering why they got left off the invite list. 7 p.m. today, KSTU Channel 13.

Keifer Sutherland returns in 'Touch'; 'Chuck' bows out

Don't miss

"Touch" -- So much for Jack Bauer. Kiefer Sutherland returns to television, playing a man dramatically different from the amped-up federal agent he embodied for eight years in "24." Now, Sutherland is Martin Bohm, a widower and single father exasperated by an inability to connect with his 11-year-old mute son (David Mazouz). But a major breakthrough occurs when he discovers that the boy possesses a gift of incredible genius: the ability to see things that no one else can in life's everyday patterns. The gift begins to manifest itself in strange cases, involving people across the globe who are connected in ways they never knew. Both compelling and inspiring, "Touch" quickly gets you in its grasp. 8 p.m. Wednesday, KSTU Channel 13.

Baldwin apologizes to passengers, not airline

LOS ANGELES -- Alec Baldwin issued an apology Wednesday to fellow passengers on an American Airlines flight that was delayed by his refusal to stop playing a cellphone game -- but stopped short of apologizing to the airline or the flight attendant he later mocked on Twitter.

American Airlines defends booting Alec Baldwin from plane

LOS ANGELES -- Alec Baldwin's dustup with American Airlines continued for a second day Wednesday, with the airline taking to social media to maintain it was following federal regulations when it booted an "extremely vocal customer" from a flight for refusing to shut off his cellphone.

The airline, which earlier cited passenger privacy in declining to discuss the matter, said on its Facebook page it decided "to provide the actual facts of the matter" after Baldwin stated publicly he had gotten kicked off the flight.
