Davis High sophomore a 'Judge for a Day'

FARMINGTON — Carissa Uresk, sitting next to the court clerk, flipped through the pages of the court calendar as the judge called each case to the podium.

The Davis High School sophomore is one of six students selected to participate in the “Judge for a Day” program in 2nd and 3rd district courts during April and May.

Man inspired by horror movie in killing of Layton woman bound for prison

SALT LAKE CITY — The man who admitted to killing a 25-year-old Layton woman a year ago has been sentenced to serve 15 years to life in Utah State Prison.

The body of Jessica Irene Jensen was found at the Capitol Motel in Salt Lake City on June 2 after a guest who checked into the room complained of a foul odor.

Police arrested Thomas Kumalac, 27, as he was trying to enter Wendover, Nev., and he pleaded guilty to first-degree felony murder on Jan. 20.

New sex charges filed for ex-pastor 'Soulja'

New sexual abuse charges have been filed against a former Roy pastor sent to prison in March for a sexual relationship with a teenage parishioner.

Three counts of forcible sexual abuse were filed in May against Aaron Witcher, known as Pastor Soulja, in 3rd District Court in Salt Lake County. The warrant for his arrest was faxed to the Utah State Prison, according to court records.
