HOWELL -- A truck driver was hurt after his semi slammed into the rear of another truck on Interstate 84 near Howell this morning.
Authorities say speed was likely the cause of the crash.
The driver of a UPS semi truck was heading westbound near mile post 27 around 8:36 a.m. when he failed to notice the slower speed of another semi ahead, which was carrying crane parts, said Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry.
The UPS truck jack-knifed after it clipped the right rear of the other semi. During the crash, the cab of the UPS truck was ripped off the frame.
The driver suffered head injures and was taken in good condition to Bear River Valley Hospital in Tremonton with non life-threatening injuries. He will likely receive a citation for speeding, Perry said.
His passenger, who was in the sleeper at the time of the crash, was not hurt. Both occupants are from Colorado.
The lone occupant in the other truck, from Salt Lake City, was not injured.
All but one lane in the westbound direction was closed for about two hours while the roadway was cleared and the UPS truck was towed away.
