3 killed in Utah interstate crashes as snow falls

CEDAR CITY — Three women died in separate traffic crashes Wednesday in southern Utah, including one that partially closed the state’s main north-south interstate for several hours and another involving a state trooper apparently responding to the scene.

FRANKLIN, Mich. -- Authorities say a teacher accidentally backed her SUV through a window and into her classroom at a suburban Detroit school. Several preschool students were injured but none seriously.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. -- A rock slide punched gaping holes in a bridge and left huge boulders on Interstate 70, closing a 17-mile stretch of the highway in western Colorado.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Two crew members remained in critical condition Thursday after a Coast Guard helicopter crashed in the Utah mountains.

The helicopter with five aboard crashed Wednesday morning as the crew was headed back to its base in Elizabeth City, N.C., after providing security support for the Winter Olympics.

A West Haven man who was critically injured in a crash in unincorporated Weber County on Wednesday morning may have missed a stop sign before his vehicle barreled into a cement truck.

Klint Peterson, 28, was flown by helicopter to Ogden Regional Medical Center. As of Wednesday afternoon, hospital officials said he remained in critical condition.
